If you live near, drive on, pedal through, or walk along Sixth Street in the Miracle Mile (between La Brea and Fairfax), you have an inkling of how dangerous the street can be. It is in fact one of the more dangerous streets in LosAngeles, with crashes, often violent ones involving maimings and deaths, occurring every few weeks.
The street is what is called "dangerous by design," and encourages speeding swerving, and other aggressive maneuvers.
There has been a plan to calm traffic on the street while increasing its carrying capacity, but the plan has been put on the back burner by our timid city council.
Please come to a town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 18th, at the Korean Cultural Center on Wilshire Boulevard and learn about plans to tame the killer street, voice your own opinions on how that should be done, and give support to a vital community safety effort.
